About BIG Ideas
The Institute is a non-partisan think tank. The year 2023 provides an excellent opportunity for the Institute to collate and share a few BIG ideas for politicians, political parties, policy analysts and others to discuss, consider and reflect on in advance of the upcoming election. To be a BIG idea, the suggestion must be novel, practical, actionable, scalable, have a strategic impact and position the country well for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Editor and presenter
Girol Karacaoglu has extensive experience in public policy. Professor Girol Karacaoglu was Head of School for the School of Government at Victoria University of Wellington from 2016–2022 and before that, Chief Economist at the New Zealand Treasury from 2012 to 2016. His previous roles include Chief Executive of the Co-operative Bank of New Zealand, General Manager at Westpac NZ, Chief Economist at the National Bank of NZ, and lecturer in Economics at Victoria University of Wellington. Girol has brought together a range of thoughts and ideas from the Institute’s patrons. Thank you Girol for bringing this work together and speaking to this topic in February 2023.
